The dhamma – printed, preserved, passed-on, studied, practiced
The Sutta Print project is printing the Sutta Pitika and Vinaya Pitika for distribution in Australia and New Zealand. These are the english translations of the Sutta by Bhante Sujato and Vinaya by Ajahn Brahmali.
The project is a dharma community initiative:
being operated as a non-profit and is run by volunteers.
Crowdfunding is used to raise the funds for printing and distribution of the printed book sets.
28 cloth bound books make up a Sutta and Vinaya book set. The cloth is being hand woven and the binding is sewn.
The printing and distribution is being paid for by individual contributions across the Dharma community. Dharma community members can :
- pay for their own book set for home study. Or,
- pay for book sets for temples and other organisations
- Make a donation in support of the project
The crowdfunding aim is to have many people make this contribution to continuing the dharma by having the Sutta and Vinaya printed. In this way the merit is available to the many.
The price for a box set will be between $399 to $449 for a set of 28 books. The final price depends on the delivery state and country, and the global situation.
500 book sets will be printed for this 2026-27 run. That’s 14,000 books in total, weighing 8.5 tons
It is intended that another printing will be done in 2027-28.
The project timeline
- April-June 2026 – expressions of interest
- July-September 2026 – Opening the crowdfunding
- September-December 2026 – weaving of the cloth for the covers
- January – March 2027 – Printing and binding
- April-June 2027 – distribution of the sets

This new edition print run follows on from the successful printing of the Sutta and Vinaya Pitikas in Sri Lanka in 2025. Those sets were distributed to the Pirivena Buddhist monastic education centres around Sri Lanka. Crowdfunding by the dharma community raised the money to have that printing done.
Once again the project will print the sets in Sri Lanka, ship them to Australia and distribute them.
